Applications.
We review applications on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but if we miss a day please don't worry. Sometimes the moderators are just as busy as everyone else, and simply can't get to reviewing the new applications. We aren't playing favorites by conveniently skipping the day that your application should have been reviewed, we promise.
For some applications, we might need to debate amongst ourselves for a little while before we accept it. You will be informed of this situation by a post titled PENDING in response to the application.
Additionally, you may be asked for a clarification of some sort by a mod before you are accepted. This is common, and it's just for the sake of consistency. The most common case for this is that your canon synopsis or onorata-verse background was not complete enough.
If you are applying for a cloned character, you absolutely must have been pre-approved by a moderator.

Oh, and IF YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED ONCE BEFORE, YOU DON'T NEED TO WRITE FIRST-PERSON SAMPLES AGAIN. Yay!

And now, a general rundown of what each field is asking for. For further information, please see the FAQ!

Please check the dropped characters list before you begin the application process. If you plan to apply for a dropped character, please speak with the moderators first.

To apply to Onorata, please fill out the form below, and post it here.

PLAYER
NAME: Your name or alias.
PERSONAL LJ: Your personal LiveJournal. Not required, but preferred...
EMAIL/MESSENGER(S): Emails are required, because we need this to contact you if issues come up. It is also helpful for other players to contact you this way. Additionally, please list your usernames on AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, whatever you happen to use. Not required, but extremely recommended, because it's faster than email.

CHARACTER
NAME: Your character's name.
FANDOM: The show, book, movie, etc. that they come from. (For allowed fandoms, see the FAQ.)

CANON SYNOPSIS:

Try to give us a brief summary of your character as they appear in canon. Show us a concise overview of their history. Tell us what they act like, how they respond to certain situations, what they do, what they aspire to do...anything about them you think is important. Be as complete as you think you can, without overdoing it.
If your character's canon is very long, or very disjointed, please also pick at least one story arc (or something similar), that you feel describes your character very well, to add to the summary.

ONORATA-VERSE BACKGROUND:
This is the new backstory for your character, as they exist within Onorata. How did your character grow up (or did they grow up, or were they made)? What family is your character from, if any? Are they part of the mafia, the Antimafia Commission, or do they work for hire? Why is your character where they are in the city? Do they have any strange abilities or powers? All of this is important, and we ask for as much detail as possible. We're looking for you to parallel your character's canon background where you can, though of course we aren't expecting anything perfect.
NOTE: If you are applying for a dropped character please read the bullet-point addressing it in the FAQ. A complete listing of dropped characters can be found [here]. Please speak with a moderator before you apply for a dropped character.

CURRENT SITUATION: This is an extension of the Onorata-verse background. Try to answer all these questions completely. Where is your character now? Do they have a job, or a cover job to hide their involvement with mafia activities? Where are they living, and with whom? What are they doing right now, as they first enter the game?

ALIGNMENT: From the CHARACTER ALIGNMENT page, choose either Monacello, Vescovo, Antimafia Commission, or Neutral.

RANK: Please choose three ranks from the ranking list–found [here]–that you feel will be appropriate, and list them in the order you desire them. The mods will do their best to accommodate you and attempt to give you your first choice! If you choose a rank above Soldati/Soldier, you must explain how your character fits in that role. Thank you!

SAMPLES
THIRD PERSON: A sample of how you would write your character in a log in [info]onoratalogs. Minimum of 100 words.
FIRST PERSON: A sample of how your character would be speaking if they were posting in [info]onorata. Minimum of 3 sentences.

NOTES
Anything else you need to add? Please note if your character was on reserve here, or if you're not doing a first-person sample because you've already got other characters in the game presently, etc., if applicable. If you've done backstory with another player, this is the place to mention that you've spoken with them. about it.
If you have a character application that was accepted, but you dropped from the game, and are looking to re-apply for that character or any other, please link to that application if you choose to not write a first-person sample. Thanks!

CHARACTER
NAME: Jasper Whitlock
FANDOM: Twilight
CANON SYNOPSIS: Born in Texas in 1843, Jasper Whitlock lied about his age and joined the Confederate Army in 1859, at only sixteen years old. He was an intelligent, charismatic, naturally strategic young man who made friends with everyone around him, and was the youngest in the army to earn the rank of a Major at twenty, even though they thought he was twenty-two.

One night, however, he came across two women while out riding on his horse, and dismounted to see if they needed any help. Recognizing his rank and uniform, the women decided that Jasper must be exceptionally talented. One of the women, Maria, was participating in a series of vampiric wars in the south, and wanted a strong male on her side, so in 1863 she turned Jasper.

His charisma accompanied him through his death in the form of empathy, which made him even more useful to Maria. It was common to turn a bunch of humans into vampires and use them as soldiers for a year or so, while they were still newborns and before the human blood in their system had completely vanished. Newborns, however, were notoriously more powerful than older vampires, and recklessly bloodthirsty to boot. Jasper was given the task of controlling them through their emotions, since he not only had the ability to feel those of everyone around them, but to influence them however he wished as well.

He routinely created, raised, controlled, and killed newborns for Maria for around ninety years before Peter, a fellow vampire, convinced him to leave with him sometime in the early 1940s. They soon split up, and Jasper wandered for a few years before wandering into a Philadelphia diner to get out of the rain, where he bumped into Alice. Alice was another vampire, only she had the ability to see somewhat into the future. Over the course of his wanderings, Jasper had grown tired of the pointless bloodshed; it was Alice who gave meaning to his life again.

They traveled together for a couple years until, in 1950, they bumped into Carlisle Cullen and his coven, comprised of Esme, Edward, Rosalie, and Emmett. Alice had predicted their meeting, and promised Jasper they would be happy with them. The Cullens, however, refrained from drinking human blood, choosing instead to feed from animals. Having never been taught to control his thirst, Jasper found this task incredibly difficult. Nevertheless, he and Alice, now married, stayed with them for the next fifty-eight years.

Jasper isn't seen much in the Twilight books themselves. He doesn't trust himself around Bella, and is pretty antisocial amongst most humans as well, just in case. In Twilight he and Alice keep an eye on Bella while James, a tracker vampire out to kill her, hunts them down, but in New Moon a slight papercut on Bella's finger is enough for him to lose enough control to make an attempt on her life himself. In Eclipse his past is revealed, and he uses his tactical experience in both the human and vampire wars to teach the other vampires how to fight an oncoming threat.

Not much else is know about him. He's quiet in the books, but they're told from Bella's point of view and he doesn't interact with her much. He does go out of his way to help calm her down, though, and reassure her of her importance when he feels her guilt for putting Edward and his family through so much trouble, implying that he cares a lot for the people around him. In an excerpt from Midnight Sun his close relationship with Alice is made more prominent, in which they both understand each other well enough to know when they want to be left alone. It's also revealed there that he and Edward are close, and that Edward looks out for him when his bloodlust attempts to get the best of him.

ALIGNMENT: Antimafia Commission
RANK: Soldier
ONORATA-VERSE BACKGROUND: Jasper's parents when he was too young to remember much about them. Orphaned at age five without any relatives, he wasn't left with many options. He joined a local gang of street kids to survive.

Inquisitive, quick-witted, naturally intelligent, and charismatic, he spent the next three years making friends with his peers as they roamed the streets, initially only learning how to take care of himself before gradually making plans for all of them. He learned the intricacies of leadership and strategy through discussing plans with them, usually to steal food, clothes, or other necessities they couldn't otherwise afford.

A few months before he turned nine, however, the streets he and his gang roamed was farmed by an association known as the Antimafia Commission in their search for homeless, identity-less soldiers to groom and train and use for their own purposes in their war against the Mafiosi. Jasper and the majority of his friends were caught and transported to Reggio Calabria, a city none of them had ever heard of before.

Each was subjected to a string of standard tests that would immunize them against common pathogens and reveal any special health conditions that would either need to be treated or render the subject useless, thereby disqualifying them from wasting any more of the Commission's funds. But when it was discovered that Jasper met the biological qualifications for another type of experimentation, he was transferred to the Commission's main facilities in Reggio Calabria, where he underwent a series of alterations designed to render him into their prefect idea of a soldier: faster, stronger, and with senses heightened beyond any normal human's. What wasn't anticipated, however, was the accompanying thirst for human blood. Jasper could hardly control it, and the scientists in the Commission didn't want him to.

Never one to waste an opportunity when it was presented to them, the Commission used his bloodlust to control him and effectively bend him to their will. He was placed in a new group of peers, this one having reacted the same way to the Commission's experiments as he had, and when it was made clear that outstanding behavior warranted more blood privileges that sulking unnoticed, Jasper stopped holding back.

The experiments now were to determine the extent of their abilities, and to train them to be used in combat. Jasper was thin, but quick; not the strongest or the fastest, but light on his feet and intelligent enough to fight with his brain instead of sheer muscle. It wasn't long before his penchant for strategy was discovered and he was assigned to be his group's leader. He'd become more antisocial since losing the friends he'd grown up with and becoming subject to the uncaring pokes and prods of the Commission's scientists, but he did what he was told, and he did it well. After killing or drinking from as many people as he had, he didn't really care about much else. It the Commission did anything for them, it was to allow them to temporarily slake their thirst, which was all the incentive any of them needed.

After a year or two of further tests and physical tests in order to collect data, they used Jasper and his group to clean up the streets. In addition to other odd jobs, they were expected to use their sense of smell to track anyone's scent they were given, and either bring them in or do with them as they wished on the spot. A job well done was rewarded with more blood to devour, usually from people the Commission was going to dispose of anyway.

At sixteen, after eight years of constant bloodshed, Jasper grew tired of it and withdrew even further into himself. The Commission, recognizing the potential loss of one of their greatest Soldati, allowed him to be transferred to another of their facilities for a few years in the hopes that he would come to miss his comfortable, well-fed life with them and return of his own free will. He was sent to a doctor who was also working with the exceptional results of the tests that had turned Jasper into what he was, but one who didn't allow any human bloodshed at all.

Having never before been required to curb his thirst, Jasper found it incredibly difficult to learn to do so now. But Dr. Carlisle Cullen was patient, and took his time with him. Another boy under his tutelage, Edward Masen-Cullen, helped. In addition to the typical transformation he'd undergone, Jasper had also developed the abilities of an empath; he could feel the emotions of everyone in his immediate vicinity, and influence them however he wanted. Edward was the only other one he'd met with such abilities, only instead of emotions he could read minds. Jasper found it difficult, given his bloody history, to fit in with the peaceful group, but through his abilities he could sense that Edward felt restless with them as well, and vice-versa Edward was able to tell when he was thinking of cheating. Together they manage to curb each other's rebellious desired for a good three years.

Then, when Jasper turned nineteen, Edward had finally had enough. Always a bit temperamental, he'd finally grown tired of Carlisle's passive ways and wanted to join the actual Commission in order to get rid of the Mafiosi the old-fashioned way, through the main branch instead of some side project.

Jasper lasted a year before he followed. Without Edward there to call him out on his half-made plans before he could complete them, he'd found it infinitely more difficult not to slip up and give in to the constant bloodlust in the back of his mind. He had no real reason to stay with Carlisle anyway, he'd killed way too many people in Reggio Calabria to make up for it by abstaining now, and was beginning to think that abstaining wasn't worth the effort anyway. The Commission was glad for his return and put him back to work immediately. He was already skilled and trained in the areas they wanted him for, so there was no wasted time, effort, or money. Jasper didn't mind, and, once reinstated, began looking around for Edward again to see how he'd fared the last year.

SAMPLES
THIRD PERSON: Reggio Calabria was home to a specific kind of scent. Jasper attributed it to the constant stench of blood spilled across the streets, much of it by his own hands. A waste, he thought, but it was what he was and what he did. He'd tried becoming something else, and it hadn't worked. His superiors were right. He belonged to them, and no amount of good intentions was ever going to change that.

Edward was here somewhere, he knew. He hadn't picked up on his scent yet, but Jasper didn't doubt that, assuming he was still in the city, he would. And if he'd left for someplace else in the last twelve months, well, that was fine. Jasper wasn't leaving again, with or without his pseudo-friend.

He was home for good again, whether he liked it or not.

NOTES: Augh, I can't seem to write a history without turning it into a novel. ~__~ And I already apped as Squall and Matt, so no first person. 8)

Since Jasper is a vampire in his canon, he's just been experimented on here. He's faster and stronger than a normal person, but not lightning-fast or invincible, and he can still be hurt and bleed. He has a heightened sense of smell, hearing, and sight, especially when any of them have to do with human blood. He's also plagued with a chronic case of insomnia. Snuzz and I worked on their histories together. If anyone else picks up a Twilight character, they're welcome to work themselves into the story as well.
